GMC
Known as the General Motors Truck Company, GMC currently makes a variety of styles of vehicles including light and heavy duty trucks, crossover SUVs, vans, and commercial trucks.
Started in 1911, GMC morphed from the combined GM divisions of the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company and the Reliance Motor Car Company. This new division handled all GM truck production.
During WWII, GMC manufactured over 600,000 trucks for the military.
In 1925 GMC took interest in the Yellow Coach company, a taxicab and bus maker. In 1943 it bought Yellow Coach out right and folded it into GMC.
Pontiac (another GM line) was merged with GMC Trucks in 1996 to build a brand known for its physical power. This meant that although many Chevy and GMC trucks are mechanically the same, GMC is considered the more premium and luxurious of the two. GMC Light Trucks:
